Subscription Update Obituary

    Frederick J. Hughes, 95, of Pleasant Street, died Saturday, December 12, 2009, in Holden Nursing Home after an illness.

    His wife of 65 years, Jeanne L. (Slaney) Hughes, died in 2006. He leaves twin sons, James Hughes of Paxton and Thomas Hughes and his wife Dianne of Oakham; two sisters, Kay Haley and Ella Donovan both of Red Bluffs, CA; two grandchildren, Scott Hughes and his wife Karen of Princeton and Deborah Baldwin and her husband Erik of Oakham; his great-grandson, Brady Thomas Hughes; many nieces and nephews. An infant son, Thomas, six brothers and four sisters, predeceased him. He was born on Prince Edward Island, Canada the son of Thomas and Bessie (Mullen) Hughes and lived most of his life in Paxton.

    Frederick was a disabled Army Veteran of World War II. He worked many years as an inspector for the Registry of Motor Vehicles and was a part-time Police Officer in Paxton. He was a member of St. Columba Church.

    Relatives and friends are invited to calling hours from 5 to 7 p.m. on Monday, Dec.14th, in the Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main Street, Holden. The funeral for Mr. Hughes will be held from the funeral home with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 15th, in St. Columba Church, 18 Richards Ave., Paxton. Burial will follow in Worcester County Memorial Park, Paxton.
