Franklin J. “Frank” Carrigan, 80, of 235 Parker Ave., a retired Worcester Firefighter, died peacefully at home with his family by his side, on Friday, April 4, 2014, after a brief illness. His wife of 55 years, Ann T. (Donoghue) Carrigan, died June 9, 2011. He leaves his daughter, Kathleen (Carrigan) Hassey of Lancaster, MA; a sister, Jane (Carrigan) Williams and her husband Robert of Vermont; 4 adoring grandchildren, Mark and his wife Maggie, Sean, Michael and Erin Hassey; a sister-in-law, Nora M. Donoghue of Worcester; many loving nieces and nephews. Eight brothers, Paul, Walter, Francis, John, Thomas, William, Warren and Robert Carrigan, all predeceased him. He was born and raised in Worcester, son of the late Joseph and Agnes (Anderson) Carrigan. He graduated from of St. Stephen’s High School and was an Army Veteran of the Korean War serving as an MP achieving the rank of Corporal. He lived in Holden since 1978.
Frank was a Worcester Fire Fighter for 30 years until retiring in 1986. He served on Engine #3, Engine #11, Ladder #6 and finished his career working with Fire Prevention, He was a member of the IAFF (International Association of Fire Fighters) and a regular participant of the Good Grief Group sponsored by Worcester County Memorial Park. He enjoyed playing golf, carpentry, gardening, cooking for his family and dancing with his beloved wife Ann. He will be fondly remembered by many as a consummate gentleman with a wonderful sense of humor.
CALLING HOURS will be from 4 to 8 p.m. on FRIDAY, APRIL 11, in KELLY FUNERAL HOME, 154 Lincoln St., Worcester. A FUNERAL MASS will be held at 10 A.M. on SATURDAY, APRIL 12 at IMMACULATE CONCEPTION CHURCH, 353 Grove St., Worcester. Burial will follow at Worcester County Memorial Park in Paxton, MA.
