Frank E. Burns, 93, of Worcester, died peacefully Sunday, August 17, 2025 at home.
He leaves his daughter Donna M. Burns of Holden; his sister Alice M. LaPorta of Milford; a niece Amy LaPorta; a nephew Brian LaPorta; and a close friend David Fors of Palm Coast, Fla.
He was predeceased by his wife of 49 years, Jeannette T. (Laplume) Burns; his son Frank E. “Chuck” Burns Jr.; his grandson Brian Colonies; his sister Lillian T. Zaremba; and his longtime friend Thomas Payne.
Frank was born in Sherbrook, Quebec to Ernest E. and Tillie (Andrews) Burns. He moved to Worcester as a child and lived there the rest of his life.
He was a Sergeant in the U.S. Army during the Korean War era and served overseas in West Germany.
Frank was appointed to the Worcester Police Department in 1962 and retired in 1994.
Frank enjoyed working in his yard.
He was a member of Immaculate Conception Church, the Mass. Police Association, and the Worcester Retired Police and Fire Association.
The funeral Mass will Tuesday, August 19, at 11 a.m. in Immaculate Conception Church, 353 Grove St., Worcester. Burial will be in Worcester County Memorial Park, Paxton. There are no calling hours.
In lieu of flowers, donations are suggested to the Mercy Centre in memory of Chuck Burns, 216 West Boylston St., West Boylston, MA 01583 or to the UMass-Memorial Children’s Medical Center in memory of Brian Colonies, 365 Plantation St., Biotech One–Suite 301, Worcester, MA 01605.
