Subscription Update Obituary

Ruth E. Morrissey, 92, of Westborough, formerly of Maine and Franklin, CT, died on Monday, September 4, 2006. She was the wife of the late James Morrissey and Lyle Johnson.

Born in Northampton, PA, she was the daughter of the late Charles J. and Lucretia (Laubach) Long. She attended Boston University and Connecticut College.

She was the Town Clerk of Franklin, CT for many years and then was one of the first realtors in Franklin after retiring as Town Clerk. She was also the Bursar at Connecticut College, New London, CT and held several other positions while living in CT.

She moved to Maine in the late 1970's where she lived until 1999. During that time she was the proprietor of The Australian House. She traveled extensively around the world and primarily to Australia every year for over 20 years. She would leave right after Christmas and return in April with Aboriginal Art, Opals and gemstones and other artifacts from Australia for her shop in Maine. She was also very active in any and all the communities she lived.

She is survived by one son, Arthur Morrissey of Denver, CO; one daughter, Callie Morrissey Smith of Upton, MA; two grandsons, Matthew and Martin Smith; four granddaughters, Rebecca Smith Welch, Connan Morrissey Robison, Cassie Morrissey Todd and Emma Morrissey; seven great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Her funeral service will be held on Friday, September 8, at 12 Noon in the Potter Funeral Home, 456 Jackson St., Willimantic, CT. Burial will follow in Plains Cemetery, Franklin, CT. Visitation will precede the service from 11 to 12 Noon.
