Subscription Update Obituary

   Eugene J. "Tiny" Vassar, 62, died Sunday, March 15, 2009, at St. Vincent Hospital in Worcester. He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Carol A. (Jubinville) Vassar of Jefferson; three children, Ann-Marie C. Metcalfe and her husband Eric of Barre, Michele L. Flanagan and her husband John of Charlton, and Cindy L. Vassar and her companion Jose Cruz of Clinton; a brother, Lee R. Vassar and his wife Joceline of North Oxford; several nephews and nieces; two grandchildren, Andrew Flanagan and Kacey Flanagan, both of Charlton, and a third grandchild that he was expecting in April, William Metcalfe. He was born in Webster, the son of the late Eugene D. and Jennie (LaMountain) Vassar, and lived in Worcester and North Oxford before moving to Jefferson in 1977. He graduated from Oxford High School in 1965.

   Mr. Vassar worked at Consolidated Beverages in Auburn for 33 years, retiring in 2001. He was a member of the Auburn Sportsman's Club and was a former member of the Leicester Rod and Gun Club. He was a member of the Teamsters Local 170 for many years. Mr. Vassar enjoyed sign painting and hunting, and especially loved fishing with his grandson Andrew. The Vassar family would like to thank the nurses in the Pulmonary Care Unit and the I.C.U. at St. Vincent Hospital for their exceptional care, and give a special thank you to Glenda, Gladys, and Andrea.

   A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, March 20, 2009, at Paradis Funeral Home, 357 Main St., Oxford. Burial will follow at Worcester County Memorial Park, Paxton. Calling hours are Friday, March 20, 2009, from 9-11 a.m. at the funeral home, prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Lung Association of Massachusetts, 460 Totten Pond Road, Suite 400, Waltham, MA 02451-1942.
