Subscription Update Obituary

    Ethel D. (Gibbs) Anfield, 83, of Worcester, passed away on Sunday, June 20, 2010 in Saint Mary Healthcare. Ethel was predeceased by her husband Mitchel Anfield in 2002 and also by her first husband, James H. Bailey II, in 1963.

    Ethel is survived by three sons, Preston Spruill (Bessie) of Crestwell, NC, Terry Bowser (Kathy) of Charlotte, NC, and James H. Bailey III (Priscilla) of Worcester; four daughters, Ethel Bailey of Worcester, Carrie Johnson (Leroy) of Worcester, Darlene Harris of Worcester and Lucinda Griffin-Moore (Wayde) of Gastonia, NC; three brothers, Peter Gibbs of Columbia, SC, William S. Gibbs of Savanah, GA and James Gibbs of Daytona Beach; three sisters, Quintia Pollard of Columbia, SC, Marjorie Hill of Washington, DC and Barbara G. Brown of Edgewater, MD; twenty eight grandchildren; many great grandchildren; and many great great grandchildren as well as many nieces, nephews and friends. She was also predeceased by her granddaughter, Moneka Griffin and by a brother, Dennis R. Gibbs. She was born in Columbia, North Carolina a daughter of Elbin and Mary Frances (Harden) Gibbs.

    Calling hours will be held on Friday morning, June 25, from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m., followed immediately by a Funeral Service at 11 a.m. in MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation Street, Worcester. Interment will follow in Worcester County Memorial Park, Paxton. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Saint Mary Healthcare, 39 Queen Street, Worcester or to the Alzheimer's Association , 311 Arsenal Street, Watertown, MA 02472.
