Subscription Update Obituary

Esther Ethelyn Stebbins, of Nellysford, Virginia, passed away on November 26, 2024. She was peacefully at home surrounded by family members. 

She was born March 13, 1930, in Worcester, Massachusetts to Geralda Hurtle Houle and Eugene Albinie Houle.

Esther grew up In Massachusetts with her parents and two sisters, Louise and Carolyn, and two brothers, Edward and Eugene. She married Thomas C. Stebbins in 1950, and had one daughter, Patricia and one son, Curtis.

She moved to New Jersey and then Florida after retirement. She then moved to Virginia to live with her daughter, Patricia and son-in-law Allan Phillips, after her husband passed away.

Esther was a strong, lively and lovely person, full of vitality and interest in life. Esther loved reading, playing Bridge, and golfing. She had many best friends, as well as her sister in Florida and visited every winter to enjoy the warm weather and golfing season.

She is preceded in death by her two brothers, Edward and Eugene, her son, Curtis, and her husband, Thomas.

She is survived by her two sisters, Louise Henderson and Carolyn Marquis, and her daughter, Patricia Phillips. She is also survived by her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

In accordance with Esther’s final wishes there will be a Celebration of Life for family and friends at a later date. 

Her final resting place will be Worcester Memorial Park, in Paxton, Massachusetts, near her beloved husband and parents.

The family would like to thank the staff of Hospice of Piedmont for their compassion and care during her final days.
