Subscription Update Obituary

    Erwin A. "Butch" Bates, Jr., 65, died suddenly, Friday, December 11 at his home in Hyannis.

    He leaves a brother, David R. Bates and his wife Sharon of Leicester, a niece Renee M. Gordon of Dudley, two nephews, Keith D. Bates and his wife Shawna of Oxford, Scott A. Bates and his wife Stephanie of Leicester and 3.5 great nieces and nephews.

    Born in Worcester, he was the son of Erwin A. & Beatrice R. (LaBaire) Bates, Sr. and has lived in Hyannis for the past 20 years.

    Mr. Bates was a graduate of the former St. Stephens High School in Worcester and received and Associates Degree from the former Worcester Jr. College.

    For the past two years he was a chef at Park Place Living Retirement Center in Chatham. He previously worked at Colonial Candle of Cape Cod in Hyannis and at one time owned and operated "Top of the Square", a woman's clothing store, in Tatnuck Square and at the former Worcester Galleria.

    He was an avid animal and nature lover. He enjoyed making beautiful jewelry and had at great love for cooking.

    A Graveside Service will be held, Saturday, December 19 at 10 A.M. in Worcester County Memorial Park, Paxton. There are no calling hours. Please omit flowers. The MORIN-MORRISON FUNERAL HOME, 1131 Main St., Leicester are directing arrangements.
