Subscription Update Obituary

   Elizabeth J. (Carrigan) Metivier, 81, of Rutland and formerly of Worcester, died Wednesday, February 13, 2008 at Leominster Health Alliance Hospital after a brief illness.

   Her husband, John J. Metivier, died in 2001. She leaves a son Richard P. McGrail of West Boylston and a daughter Sharon E. Mack of Rutland. She also leaves three grandchildren, Joshua J. Mack USAF, Siobhan E. Mack of Rutland and Mark McGrail of Illinois, three great-grandchildren, Victoria Prescott, Kaitlin E. Prescott and Grace M. Bessette, all of Rutland, a brother Joseph Beaulac of Northboro, an aunt Madelyn Monahan of West Boylston, and numerous nephews, nieces and cousins.

   Born in Worcester, she was the daughter of Francis D. and M. Loretta Carrigan and resided in Sterling, Gardner and most recently Rutland.

   She was a graduate of Commerce High School, Worcester and David Hale Fanning Trade School, graduating first in her class for Dental Assistance. She worked many years for Drs. Kelly and Iaccovelli of Worcester, before retiring to Sterling.

   She was an avid crossword puzzle solver always seeking the next challenge. She was quite a seamstress and beautiful knitter and crocheter. Another love of hers was to travel. She had the good fortune to travel to County Cork, Ireland, where her family roots began. She also cruised to Greece, Italy, Turkey, Norway, Denmark, Hawaii, the Caribbean, the South Pacific, Alaska and went through the Panama Canal twice, sharing her adventures upon her return.

   Elizabeth was a member of St. Martin's Church in Otter River and most recently a member of St. Patrick's Church in Rutland.

   Calling hours at the Athy Memorial Home, 111 Lancaster St., Worcester, are Friday, February 15 from 5 to 7 p.m. The funeral service will be Saturday, February 16 at 11 a.m. in the funeral home.

   Burial alongside her husband in Worcester County Memorial Park will be private.
