Elaine I. (Chambers) Gilrein, 82, of Worcester, died Sunday, February 13, 2011 peacefully at home.
Her husband of 44 years, James P. Gilrein Jr., died in 2004.
She leaves three sisters: Janet Christian of Port St. Lucie, Fla., Eugena Chambers of Worcester and Nancy Cierpich of Dudley; many nieces and nephews, including Richard Strader of Worcester, with whom she lived; and many grandnieces and grandnephews. Her sisters: Jessie Tryba and Beverly Strader, predeceased her.
Elaine was born in Worcester, daughter of Howard I. and Mildred A. (Olson) Chambers. She was raised in Oxford and Webster. After her marriage, she lived in Worcester and Rutland and spent many winters in Port Charlotte, Fla.
Elaine was a credit manager for many years at Sears & Roebuck, the department store in Worcester and later Auburn, before retiring. She also helped her husband, who owned Gilrein’s Steakhouse on Main St. in Worcester.
Elaine was an avid golfer and she volunteered many hours to support the PGA Tour each year at Pleasant Valley Country Club. She was also a volunteer at Foothills Theatre. She was a former member of the Rutland Chapter of the Red Hat Society.
Funeral services will be private. Entombment will be in Worcester County Memorial Park, Paxton. There are no calling hours.
