Subscription Update Obituary

   Edward R. Ackley, 88, retired engineer and and Marine Corps veteran, formerly of Paxton, died Wednesday, May 15, in Christopher House after an illness.


   He left his wife of 64 years, Irene W. (Anttila) Ackley; a sister, Phyllis Olson of Florida; many nephews and nieces. Three brothers, Earl, Henry and Loring Ackley, and a sister, Sally Thompson, predeceased him. He was born in Worcester, son of Chester J. and Mary (McCardle) Ackley, and lived many years in Worcester and Paxton. He graduated from Commerce High School and Worcester Junior College, both in Worcester. He was a Marine Corps veteran of World War II, serving in the Pacific.  He was an engineer at Norton Co., where he worked for 30 years, retiring in 1978. He was a member of the First Congregational Church of Paxton and the Greendale Retired Men’s Club. He enjoyed electrical repair work and traveling.


   The graveside services were private in Worcester County Memorial Park, Paxton.

Donations may be made to the Endowment Fund of the First Congregational Church, 1 Church St., Paxton, MA 01612. Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main St., Holden, is directing arrangements.
