Subscription Update Obituary

     Edward B. Waters, 57, of Sutton, died on Saturday, April 4th, at Tufts Medical Center surrounded by his loving family after a brave struggle with cancer.

     He is survived by his wife, Joan Gautreau-Waters of Sutton; his daughter, Jessica (Waters) Rubinow and her husband Eric of Holden; his stepson, Jason Gautreau and his wife Mindy of Salt Lake City, UT; his stepdaughter, Deven Mespelli and her husband Scott of Whitinsville; his father, Edward Waters of Worcester; his siblings, Susan Albani, and her husband Richard, of Auburn, Sheila Muscott, of Fairfield, CT, Sharon Waters of Worcester, Robin McPartland, and her husband Jack, of Worcester, and Brian Waters, and his wife Diane, of Auburn; He leaves a granddaughter, Julia Rubinow, nieces and nephews, and many close friends. He was predeceased by his mother and a nephew.

     Ed was born December 7th, 1951 in Worcester, the son of Edward and the late Marion Waters. He attended Worcester schools, and graduated from Burncoat Senior High School in 1969. He then attended Quinsigamond Community College, where he played golf and basketball; he transferred to Central Connecticut State University, where he played golf, and graduated in 1974 with a degree in Social Studies. At the time of his death, he was a teacher, administrator, and former coach at Blackstone Valley Tech High School in Upton. At BVT, he started the school's golf program, and was very proud of the numerous league and state vocational championships the teams won during his time. He also coached the boys' basketball program at various levels, most recently at the varsity level, retiring in 2008 due to illness. Ed was also known as "the Voice of the Beavers", as he announced all of BVT's home football games.

     Ed was an accomplished golfer. He loved the game, and being out on the course with his friends made him so happy. He was extremely proud of his golf accomplishments, including winning the Club Championships at High Fields Golf Club and Green Hill Golf Course. He set numerous course records throughout the area and was very proud of his career four hole-in-ones. Ed was an avid sports fan, and loved the Patriots, Red Sox and Celtics. He loved to travel out west with his wife. He loved spending time with his family and friends, and cherished the time he was able to spend with his granddaughter.

     The funeral will be held Wednesday, April 8th at 10:00 a.m at the Caswell-King Funeral Home, 474 Grove Street, Worcester. Burial will be in Worcester County Memorial Park in Paxton. Calling hours will be held Tuesday, April 7th at the funeral home from 4-8pm. A Celebration of Ed's life will be held on Wednesday, April 8th at 5 p.m at Blackstone Valley Tech, 65 Pleasant Street, Upton. All are invited to attend.
