WORCESTER– Edna H. (Donahue) Bailey, 85, of Eastern Avenue, died Sunday

at Memorial Hospital after being stricken at home.

         She leaves her husband of 68 years, Benjamin J. Bailey; a

daughter, Dorothy “Cass” Wilkins of Worcester; twin sisters, Helene

Hendricks and Irene Allen, both of Philadelphia; three grandchildren and

six great-grandchildren. A daughter, Elaine Bradshaw of Worcester, died

in 1977. She was born in North Attleboro, daughter of John Thomas and

Ada (Stokes) Donahue, and lived in Worcester all her life. She was a

graduate of Commerce High School.

         Mrs. Bailey worked during World War II at Arter Grinder Company

as a drafter machinist. Afterward, she was a housekeeper and nanny and

retired in 1977.

         She was a charter member and trustee of Emmanuel Baptist

Church. She worked many years as a Sunday School teacher, and was a

member of the Missionary Society. She was a member of the Negro Junior

League of Worcester and the Phyllis Wheatley Club, and was a volunteer

at the Emmanuel Baptist Thrift Shop.

         A funeral service will be held 11 a.m. tomorrow at Emmanuel

Baptist Church, 717 Main St. Burial will be in Worcester County Memorial

Park. A calling hour will be from 10 to 11 a.m. at the church. Kelly

 

Funeral Home, 154 Lincoln Street is directing arrangements.
