Subscription Update Obituary

    Edmond L. St. Pierre, 92, of Worcester, died peacefully Tuesday, February 15, 2011 in his home.

    His wife of 58 years, Doris J. (Steere) St. Pierre, died in 2001.

    He leaves three children: Donald E. Saint-Pierre of Worcester, Sheila M. and her husband Ronald L. Hokanson of Charlton City, and Betty Ann Ritzi of Worcester; a sister, Rita King of Seattle, WA; seven grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren. His three brothers, Louis, Arthur and Alphonse St. Pierre and his sister Lucille Warren predeceased him.

    He was born in Laconia, NH, son of J. Alphonse and Exilda (Beaule) St. Pierre. He graduated from Worcester Commerce High School. In the 1930's, he worked with the Civilian Conservation Corps.

    Ed was a proud veteran of World War II, serving in combat across the European Theater. He was an Army Staff Sergeant and Machine Gunner in Co. F of the 179th Infantry. He was a member of American Legion Post 462.

    He was a lifetime member of Local 63 of the Sheet Metal Workers Union, and worked 46 years for the W.J. Callahan Co., sheet metal contractors in Worcester. He also worked many years as the groundskeeper for the medical office buildings at 200 and 210 Lincoln St.

    Ed was devoted to St. Bernard's Church, where he was a member for 65 years. For many years, he was the custodian for the church and parish center, preparing the building for countless parish activities including theater productions, dances, Bingo and basketball games. He was an Assistant Scout Master for Boy Scout Troop 52 in the 1950's and sang in the church choir for decades.

    Calling hours are Friday, February 18 from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Athy Memorial Home, 111 Lancaster St., Worcester. The funeral will be Saturday, February 19 from the funeral home with a Mass at 10 a.m. in St. Bernard's Church, 228 Lincoln St., Worcester. Burial will be in Worcester County Memorial Park, Paxton.
