Subscription Update Obituary

  Edith M. (Burbank) Rice, 93, formerly of Worcester, died Thursday, Jan. 24, in Holden Nursing Home after an illness.

  Her husband of 39 years, Albert F. Rice, died in 1977. She leaves a son, James F. Rice of Worcester; two daughters, Kathleen M. Hidenfelter Ecker of Holden and Marjorie A. Falcone of Paxton; 11 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; nephews and nieces. Three brothers, George, Harold and Joseph Burbank, and two sisters, Ethel Flanagan and Gertrude Benoit, predeceased her. She was born in Clinton, daughter of Clarence and Mary (Grady) Burbank, and lived 75 years in Worcester. She graduated from Worcester Vocational High School.

  Mrs. Rice was a self-employed child care provider for many years. She was a member of Christ the King Parish and a Confraternity of Christian Doctrine instructor there and at St. Charles Borromeo Church. She and her husband were founding members of St. Andrew the Apostle Church. She was also active with the Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts organizations.

  The funeral will be held Monday, Jan. 28, from O’Connor Brothers Funeral Home, 59 Park Ave., with a Mass at 10 a.m. in St. Andrew the Apostle Church, 5 Spaulding St. Burial will be in Worcester County Memorial Park, Paxton. A calling period is 8 to 9:30 a.m. Monday, Jan. 28, in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Holden Nursing Home Activities Fund, 32 Mayo Drive, Holden, MA 01520.
