Earle S. Borowski, 87, of Brentwood Drive, Holden, died Thursday, April 24, 2008 in the Oakdale Rehab. and Skilled Nursing Center, West Boylston.
He leaves his wife of 63 years, Mildred M. (Antos) Borowski; a son, Clayton J. Borowski of Manchester, CT; a daughter, Linda E. George of Worcester; three grandchildren, Robert E. Murray, Heather A. and Jason E. Borowski all of Worcester; a brother, Donald Borowski of Houston, TX; nephews and nieces. A daughter, Deborah A. Murray, died in 1999 and four siblings, John, Christopher, Ralph and Clayton Borowski predeceased him. He was born and raised in Dudley, son of Michael and Belva (Moir) Borowski, and lived many years in Holden, retiring in Sandwich and Holiday, Florida before returning to Holden.
Mr. Borowski was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II having served in the National Guard and active duty until being discharged in 1945. He was a member of the 26th Calvary and 86th Cavalry Reconnaissance Squadron serving in the European African Middle Eastern Theatre and was awarded a Bronze Star Medal with an Oak Leaf Cluster – of which he was very proud. In the 1960’s, the Town of Dudley, in recognition of all five Borowski brothers who served in the military, erected a monument in Borowski Square and dedicated the monument to Clayton who died in the English Channel during World War II.
He worked for Old Town Canoe Co. in Maine for several years and later for Norton Co. in Worcester for 29 years, retiring as a Senior Purchasing Agent in 1979. He was a member of Chaffin Congregational Church where he was active in church and youth activities. He was active in the Boys Scouts of America. He enjoyed fishing, boating, gardening, hunting, building and carpentry. He was a lifelong Red Sox fan and enjoyed traveling.
A private funeral service will be held in the Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main St., Holden. Burial will be in Worcester County Memorial Park, Paxton. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Diabetes Association, 330 Congress St., 5th FL, Boston, MA 02210.
