Dorothy Y. (Gaspie) Herron, 91, of Auburn, died Thursday, July 7, 2011 at The Meadows of Leicester, following an illness.
Her beloved husband of 57 years, Edward E. “Bud” Herron, Jr. died in 1999.
She leaves her four children, Richard E. Herron and his wife Roberta of Auburn, Patricia M. Schnare and her husband Thomas of Sterling, Robert R. Herron and his wife Denise of Auburn, and Edward E. “Bud” Herron, III and his wife Renee of Shrewsbury, VT; her nine grandchildren, Richard Herron, Jr. of Boylston, Craig Herron of Worcester, Tricia M. Schnare with the US Navy, Thomas Schnare, Jr. of Ashby, Robert Schnare of Sterling, Melissa Herron of Worcester, Matthew Herron of Auburn, Bethany Herron and Edward E. Herron, IV, both of Shrewsbury, VT; her three great grandchildren, Aiden Schnare, Mikayla and Makenzy Herron; her two brothers, Robert Gaspie of Worcester and James Gaspie of Honolulu, Hawaii; several nieces and nephews and her close friend, Albert Incorvati of Westborough, as well as her dear friends past and present at Pakachoag Village in Auburn and Greendale Peoples Church. She was predeceased by her four brothers, John, Walter, Joseph and Charles Gaspie and by her two sisters, Mary Johansson and Florence Gibbs.
She was born in Provincetown, MA, a daughter of the late John and Elsie M. (Young) Gaspie. She has lived in Auburn for more than 50 years. As a young woman, Dorothy worked as a waitress for Wong’s restaurant in Provincetown and later as an elevator operator at the Slatter Building in Worcester. She also owned the former Dee’s Dancewear, a square-dance clothing store in Spencer. She spent most of her years raising her children and caring for her family. She was an active longtime member of the Greendale Peoples Church, where she belonged to the Proto 4 and Kitchen Angels groups. She was a former member of the Auburn Woman’s Club and the Massachusetts State Guard. The family wishes to thank the doctors, nurses and staff of Saint Vincent Hospital as well as The Meadows of Leicester for all their loving care and support during Dorothy’s recent illness.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend visiting hours on Sunday, July 10th from 2-4 PM in the Britton-Wallace Funeral Home, 91 Central Street, Auburn. Her funeral will be held on Monday, July 11th at 10 AM in the Greendale Peoples Church, 25 Francis Street, Worcester. Burial will follow in Worcester County Memorial Park, Paxton.
