Dorothy L. (Credit) Simone, 83, of Worcester, died unexpectedly Sunday, January 16, 2011 in UMASS Medical Center surrounded by her loving family after becoming ill at home. Her husband, Domenic J. "Snooky" Simone, died in 1983. Dorothy is survived by her loving family: two daughters: Donna D. McAuliffe and her husband William of Shrewsbury, Deborah J. Babineau and her husband Richard of Berlin; two sons: Stephen D. "Snooky" Simone and Thomas Simone, both of Worcester. Dorothy is also survived by nine loving grandchildren: Nicholas, Aimee, Craig, Ryan, Douglas, Scott, Leah, Christina, and Stephen; eight great grandchildren; three sisters: Mary Martin of South Carolina, Beverly Credit of California, and Joy Surabian of Arizona; many nephews and nieces. Dorothy was predeceased by two sisters: Theresa Credit, and Kay Ward.
Dorothy was born in Worcester, daughter of the late Wilfred and Lillian (Duquette) Credit and lived here all her life. Dorothy enjoyed being a homemaker and was dedicated to her family. In 1944, Dorothy won the title to become Miss Worcester. She traveled extensively throughout the North East on many USO Tours and received a Citation from President Roosevelt for her service to her country. She was a professional singer in the Worcester area for many years. Her most enjoyable moments were those spent with her family.
Dorothy was a member of the former St. Margaret Mary Church, and now is a member of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel-St Ann Church.
Dorothy's funeral will be held on Thursday, January 20 from the MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation St. with a Mass of Christian burial at 9:00 AM in Our Lady of Mt. Carmel-St Ann Church, 24 Mulberry St. Calling hours in the funeral home will be from 4 PM to 8 PM on Wednesday. Interment will be in Worcester County Memorial Park, Paxton. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Summit Elder Care Service, 277 East Mountain St., Worcester, MA 01604 or Our Lady of Mt. Carmel-St Ann Church Renovation Fund, 24 Mulberry St., Worcester, MA 01605.
