Subscription Update Obituary

     Dorothea E. (Fiske) LaPrade, 89, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on Friday, February 25, 2011 at Scallop Shell Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Peace Dale. Dot was the beloved wife of the late Charles N. LaPrade. Born in Worcester, MA on October 13, 1921, she was the daughter of Roland O. and Ruth H. (Gardiner) Fiske.

     Dot graduated from South High School in Worcester. She was active for many years in the Holden, MA area, serving as a member of the Women's Guild at St. Mary's church, the Holden Garden Club, and the Busy Bees craft group. Dot enjoyed her time assisting at a local nursery school and her work at Paul Revere Insurance Company.

     Dot was a wonderful homemaker, wife, and mother. She loved to bake, sew, paint, arrange flowers, and garden. She enjoyed playing bridge and established bridge clubs when she lived on Cape Cod and in West Warwick. She also enjoyed attending bible studies and retreats and traveling with her children to Hawaii and other places. She had a great sense of humor and liked having fun and playing games.

     Above all, Dot enjoyed spending time with her family. She was the beloved mother of C. Robert LaPrade and his wife Jacqueline of North Easton, MA, Carol A. Maddock and her husband Robert of Saunderstown, RI, Jean P. Bruce of Millbury, MA, and the late John P. LaPrade. She was the loving sister of Shirley V. Fidrych of Suffield, CT and the late Janice McCabe.

     Dot was the cherished grandmother of Jason and Lisa Maddock of Honolulu, HI, Charlie and Allison Wiegersma of Grafton, MA, Andy and Elizabeth Maddock of Kapolei, HI, Shane and Dina LaPrade of North Attleboro, MA, Melanie and Shane Garcia of Honolulu, HI, Taryn LaPrade of Easton, MA, and Amy and Matthew Oakley of Saunderstown, RI.

     She is the beloved great-grandmother of Jacob, Joshua, Lily, Kyla, Olivia, Kevin, Brady, and Gavin, and the devoted aunt of 19 nieces and nephews as well as several grand nieces, grand nephews, and cousins. Dot was loved and cherished by all of her family members.

     Her funeral will be held Tuesday, March 1st at 10:00 a.m. from The CRANSTON-MURPHY of WICKFORD, 140 West Main St., Wickford Village, North Kingstown followed by a Concelebrated Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 a.m. at Christ the King Church, Old North Road, Kingston, RI. Relatives and friends are invited and may call on Monday from 6:00-8:00 p.m. and Tuesday, 9:00-10:00 a.m. Burial will be private.

     Dot was lovingly and compassionately cared for by the staff at Scallop Shell and her hospice team. In lieu of flowers, gifts in her memory may be made to Home & Hospice Care of RI, 1085 North Main St., Providence, RI 02904 or to Scallop Shell Activities Fund, 981 Kingstown Road, South Kingstown, RI 02883.
