Subscription Update Obituary

    Doris M. (Burdick) Smollin, 83, passed away on Tuesday, October 20, 2009 in Saint Vincent Hospital, after a short illness.

    Her husband of 56 years, Alfons J. Smollin, passed away in 2004. She leaves three sons, Mark S. Smollin and his wife Heidi of Sterling, Kurt J. Smollin and his wife Donna of New Braintree and Jonathan C. Smollin and his wife Andrea of Worcester; a sister, Joan G. Carter of Springfield, VA; five grandchildren, Shauna, Jeffrey, Leandra, Kristina, Julia; a great-granddaughter, Ruby Mae; and a granddaughter and great-grandson “on the way”. She was born in Worcester, daughter of Edmund G. Burdick and Lena (Daniels) Burdick Bromels, and has lived in Worcester her entire life.

    Mrs. Smollin was a graduate of Commerce High School and worked for AMI Leasing, Inc. in Worcester for 25 years, retiring in 1999. She was a member of and sang in the choir at St. George’s Church. She enjoyed bird carving, traveling, gardening, reading and playing the piano.

    Relatives and friends are invited to attend calling hours from 5 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, October 22nd, in the Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main St., Holden. The funeral for Mrs. Smollin will be held on Friday, October 23rd, from the funeral home, with a 10 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial in St. George’s Church, 40 Brattle St., Worcester. Burial will follow in Worcester County Memorial Park, Paxton.
