Donald H. Mapplebeck, 67, of 3 Riverview Ave., died Mon., Dec. 4, following a work site accident.
Born in Worcester, Mr. Mapplebeck was the son of the late Cyril H. and Gertrude (Belisle) Mapplebeck. He leaves his wife of 22 years, Margaret "Maggie" (Swart) Mapplebeck; his son, Thomas H. Mapplebeck of Sturbridge, his daughters, Leigh K. Mapplebeck Darrin of North Brookfield, Lynne M. Soukup of Westborough, and Kristen M. Leo of Sturbridge; a stepson, Charles E. Smith of Vernon, CT; his friend, and the mother of his children, Marilyn Mason of Auburn; 6 grandchildren, Shane, Luke, and Ayden Mapplebeck of Sturbridge, Abigail and Audrey Soukup of Westborough, and Mason Leo of Sturbridge: 3 step-grandchildren, Nicholas, Timothy, and Kara Smith of Vernon, CT; a brother, Daniel Shannon; 5 sisters, Connie Connors of Haverhill, Carolyn Semon of Rutland, Susan Bacon of FL, Ruth Kos of Grafton, and Nancy Shannon.
Mr. Mapplebeck graduated from Commerce High School in 1957. He was a veteran of the US Air Force, serving our country from 1957 – 1961. He moved to Sturbridge in 1963 from Worcester. Mr. Mapplebeck retired from the Massachusetts Electric Co. in 1997 where he worked for over 39 years. He owns and operates DH Mapplebeck Enterprises and D & B Coal, both in Sturbridge. He belonged to the Worcester County Bee Keepers, he was a State Certified Arborist, a member of the Arborist Assoc., a Sturbridge Assessor, and had many hobbies and interests including race car driving, pin striping, and wood working, just to name a few.
The funeral service will be Fri., Dec. 8, at 10 AM in the Elm Street Congregation Church, Elm St., Southbridge. Calling hours will be Thurs., Dec. 7, from 6-9 PM at Sansoucy Funeral Home, 40 Marcy St., Southbridge, MA. Burial will be in the Worcester County Memorial Park in Paxton, MA. The family requests in lieu of flowers, memorial donations be made to the MA Chapter of the Sierra Club, 100 Boylston St., Boston, MA 02116.
