Donald F. Owens, 80, of Glendale Ave., died Saturday, June 5, 2010 in St. Vincent Hospital after an illness.
He leaves his wife of 42 years, Patricia A. (Berryman) Owens; a son, James S. Owens and his wife Sayuri of Marlboro; three daughters, Marydonna Lacilla and her husband Stephen of Holden, Erin E. Owens of Fitchburg and Kerry L. Ball and her husband Jamie of Glenallen, VA; a sister, Joan Murphy of Worcester; five grandchildren, Lisa and Michael Lacilla, Ryan and Tarina Owens, and Patrick Ball; several nieces and nephews. Donald was born and raised in Worcester the son of James F. and Anna C. (Fogarty) Owens and has lived in Sterling the past 33 years. He graduated from Commerce High School and Worcester Boy's Trade. Don was an Army Veteran serving with the 2nd Armored Division.
Mr. Owens was the assistant to the Building Superintendent for the Worcester County Court House for 35 years before retiring in 1990. He was a member of St. Richard of Chichester Church. Donald was president of the Instate Emergency Rescue Team and was a member of NAFCA both in Worcester. He was a member of the Eight Point Sportsmen's Club and the Norco Sportsmen's Club. Donald was the volunteer director at James 2:15 Kitchen in Clinton. He also volunteered at the Food Bank and the MOC.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend calling hours from 5 to 8 p.m. on Monday, June 7th, in the Miles-Sterling Funeral Home, 100 Worcester Road, Sterling. The funeral for Mr. Owens will be held on Tuesday, June 8th, from the funeral home with a 11 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial at St. Richard of Chichester Church, 4 Bridge Street, Sterling. Burial will follow at Worcester County Memorial Park, Paxton. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to James 2:15 Kitchen, High Street, Clinton, MA 01510 or to the Sterling Fire Department Ambulance Fund, P.O. Box 515, Sterling, MA 01564.
