Donald F. Currie, 90, formerly of Glendale Street, died Monday, September 20, 2010, at the Masonicare Health Center, Wallingford, CT. His wife 56 years, Frances M. (Wilder) Currie, died in 2005. He leaves a son, Richard D. Currie of Santa Monica, CA; a daughter, Pamela C. Halstead of Woodbridge, CT; a brother, William E. Currie of Cleveland, OH; 8 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by a daughter, Linda C. Poudrier (2000) and a brother, Alan B. Currie.
Born in Brookfield, Donald was a son of the late Edgar W. and Frances (Hodgkins) Currie. Don graduated from North High School and pursued further education at Worcester Junior College, Northeastern University (Associate in Accounting), and American Institute of Banking (Graduate Certificate). He was a Veteran of WWII, stationed as a Sgt. in the Army Air Corps in Greenland. He was a member of All Saints Church. Don was an avid skier, softball and ice hockey player, and was a coach for youth hockey teams in both the Wachusett and Worcester leagues. He was former president and member of the Worcester County National Bank 25-year Club, an active member of the Greendale YMCA, and the Greendale Retired men's Club. He was employed for 44 years at Worcester County National Bank and retired in 1982 as an Assistant VP. In addition to heading the bank's Accounting Department for many years, he served as Administrator of the bank's Retirement Plan.
The Funeral Service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Monday, September 27, at Nordgren Memorial Chapel, 300 Lincoln Street, Worcester. A calling hour will be held at 9:00 a.m. prior to the service. Burial will be in Worcester County Memorial Park, Paxton.
