Subscription Update Obituary

David M. Bohanan, 79, died Thursday, September 1, 2011 in the VA Hospital, West Roxbury. He was born in Hopkinton, NH, the son of John H. and Esther G. (Marcy) Bohanan. David lived in Wilkinsonville most of his life, moving to Mesa, AZ, after the death of his wife, Alice E. (Barela) Bohanan.

He leaves a son, Mark L. Bohanan of Worcester and his former wife, Sandra Puchek of Sutton; a step-daughter, Sandra Sue Calvo of CA and her former husband, Thomas; five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; two sisters, Lois K. Terry and Meta B. Wiback; four sisters-in-law, Shirley Bohanan, Vicky Richardson, Lea Dondich and Delia Pomenke; nieces, nephews and cousins. He is predeceased by his parents and five siblings, John, Leland, Russell, Herbert and Flora Bohanan.

David attended Sutton High where he was a standout baseball pitcher, and graduated from the former Worcester Boy’s Trade School. He entered the US Air Force during the Korean War serving as a senior instrument mechanic on the F-86 at Training Command Nellis Air Force Base, Las Vegas. David later worked as a master machinist for Specialty Equipment in Framingham and Westborough, Nel-Mor Techni-Fab in Northbridge and Thermo-Plastics in Worcester. He enjoyed the Boston Red Sox, trout fishing, playing pool, flying with his son to Martha’s Vinyard, Northhampton and other local airports.

The family would like to thank the doctors and staff of the VA Hospital AG Wing for all their help and care, while David was a patient.

David’s memorial calling hours will be held 5 to 7 p.m. on Friday, September 9th in Mulhane Home for Funerals, 45 Main St. in Millbury. His funeral service will be held immediately following the calling hours at 7 p.m. in the funeral home. Burial will be in Worcester County Memorial Park in Paxton at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Sutton Fire Department – Special Gifts Account, 4 Uxbridge Rd., Sutton, MA 01590.
