Subscription Update Obituary

     Clyde M. “Mel” Jones, 85, of Oxford, passed away on Tuesday, October 8, 2013, in his home, surrounded by his family. He was predeceased by his loving wife of twenty-seven years, Beverly M. (Christensen) Jones, in 2008.

     Mel, as he was known, is survived by a daughter, Karen McIntire and her partner Ed Riggles of Holden; four sons, Robert Jones and his wife Kathleen of Leicester, James Jones of Rhode Island, Stephen Jones and his wife Marjorie of Monson and Christopher Jones and his wife Christina of Dudley; two stepsons, Paul E. Alward and his wife Susan and Steven D. Alward and his wife Antonette, all of Shrewsbury; two brothers, Thomas F. Jones of Florida and William E. Jones of Millbury; two sisters, Joyce E. Wilson and Phyllis E. Gasco, both of Florida; many grandchildren; many great grandchildren; nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a son Thomas Jones; a step son, Alfred Alward; a step grandson, Daniel Alward and by a brother, Robert F. Jones. He was born in Worcester, son of the late Clyde E. and Edith (Berndston) Jones. He served his nation proudly in the United States Navy.

     Mel was a truck driver, retiring from Consolidated Transportation. He had previously been a truck driver for the former M & M Transportation for over twenty-five years. He continued to work after retirement for the Sutton Cemetery Department, allowing him to stay active and enjoy life outside. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, playing pool, playing golf and being outdoors. He was a member of the Teamsters, local 170. Mel loved life and everything about it.

     There are no calling hours. Services will be held privately.

     MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, Worcester is assisting the family with arrangements.
