Subscription Update Obituary

Clarence E. Smith, Jr., 84, formerly of 25 Healy Road, Worcester, passed away, Monday, December 25, 2006, in the Lutheran Home of Worcester. His loving wife of 53 years, Margaret C. (Ramey) Smith, predeceased him in 1999.

He leaves two sons, Tyrone Smith of Memphis, Tennessee, and Clarence E. "Bubba" Smith, III, of Worcester; a daughter, Margaret A. "Penny" Mickunas and her husband, Rodney E. Mickunas of Worcester; three grandchildren, Brenna, Kari, and Somer; and many nieces and nephews. Clarence was born in Worcester, the son of Clarence E., Sr. and Bijou (Smith) Smith, and had lived here all his life. He graduated from Commerce High School in 1941, and took Dale Carnegie Business Courses. He served in the United States Army, during World War II, and later served in the Coast Guard Reserves.

Mr. Smith worked for over twenty-five years in Marine Sales at Northeast Marine in Oxford, before he retired. He had previously been a truck driver for thirty-three years with Consolidated Motor Lines Associated Transport. He was a member of the Teamsters, Local 170, and was a food enthusiast and loved the ocean.

A graveside service for Clarence will be held at 12 Noon, Friday, Dec. 29 in Worcester County Memorial Park, Paxton, in the Garden of Honor Section.

The family has entrusted care to MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation Street, Worcester.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Coast Guard Auxiliary, USCG Sector Boston, 427 Commercial Street, Boston, MA 02109.
