Chester S. Hoyle , 91, of Keyes Street, Oakdale, a longtime press shop owner in Worcester, and an active Mason, died yesterday in the University of Massachusetts Hospital, Worcester, after an illness.
He leaves his wife of 61 years, Eunice M. (Gerry) Hoyle ; two sons, Chester C. Hoyle of Worcester and Robert E. Hoyle of Rutland; three daughters, Judith M. Bashaw of Paxton, Carol J. Hoyle -Ballard of Bolton and Marion G. Chapman of Princeton; a sister, Grace E. Smith of Claremont, Calif.; seven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; nephews and nieces. He was born in Worcester, son of state Rep. Alonzo F. and Mabel E. (Kimball) Hoyle , and lived here 52 years. He served in the Navy during the 1920s.
He owned and operated Hoyle Press in Worcester, where he worked for 60 years. He retired in 1974.
Mr. Hoyle was a member of Oakdale United Methodist Church and an original life member of the Eight-Point Sportmen’s Club in Sterling. He was a former member of the Worcester Club of Printing House Craftsmen. He was a 50-year member of Boylston Lodge of Masons in West Boylston. He was a member of Worcester Lodge of Perfection; Goddard Council, Princes of Jerusalem; Lawrence Chapter of Rose Croix; Valley of Worcester, Scottish Rite Bodies; Worcester County Commandery, York Rite Bodies; and Aletheia Grotto, in Worcester.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday in the Masonic Temple, Boylston Lodge of Masons, 12 Church St. Burial will be in Worcester County Memorial Park, Paxton. Calling hours at Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main St., Holden, are 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Boylston Lodge of Masons, Scholarship Fund, Masonic Temple, 12 Church St., West Boylston, 01583.
