    Cheryl H. (Bates) Rutherford, 63, of Worcester, passed away peacefully Monday, February 21st 2011, surrounded by her entire family and a host of friends.

    Cheryl's husband of 21 years Worcester Police Detective Lt. Loman Rutherford, Sr. passed away in October of 2000. She is survived by her four sons, Jamille M. Rutherford and his wife Tamitha, Marc L. Nevins and his wife Shanneka, Loman A. Rutherford Jr. and his wife Maria, and Lawrence A. Rutherford all of Worcester; a step daughter, Tracey Rutherford; six sisters, Karen Bates and Lisa Nevins both of Phoenix AZ., Lauren I. Cambra of Raleigh NC, Denise J. Nevins, Jamilla L. Sabree and Jean C. Shaw all of Worcester; 10 grandchildren; six great grandchildren; Her step father, Lawrence A. Sabree of Worcester; Many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. Cheryl was born in Worcester, a daughter of Carl O. Bates and Eugenia S. Nevins-Sabree. She graduated from Commerce High School and has lived here all her life.

    Cheryl worked more than 20 years as a Customer Service Representative for Shaw's Supermarket Webster Square before retiring this past December.

    Cheryl was an American Indian, a member of the Nipmuck Tribe. She loved to cook, and spend time with her extended family and friends. She was an avid New England Sports Fanatic, enjoying all of the Professional teams in New England, especially he New England Patriots. She also, enjoyed listening to all types of Jazz Music. She found comfort in her children and grandchildren. They were her inspiration and being with them were some of the best times of her life.

    Funeral services will be held Friday, February 25th at 12 NOON in the MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation St. Burial will follow in Worcester County Memorial Park in Paxton. Friends and relatives are invited to a period of calling hours from 10:00 a.m to 12 Noon, Friday, in the funeral home prior to the funeral. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Dana Farber Cancer Institute, 10 Brookline Place West, 6th floor, Brookline, MA 02445-7226, ATTN: Contribution Services.
