Charles P. Sakalauskas, 87, of Sterling, formerly of Worcester, died Monday, December 19, 2011 in St. Vincent Hospital, Worcester. His wife of 62 years, Veronica (Lucas) Sakalauskas, died May 10, 2010.
He leaves two daughters: Linda Racca and her husband, Ronald of Sterling with whom he made his home, and Charlene R. Sakalauskas of Worcester; two grandsons: Robert Racca and Jenny Robey of Connecticut and Darryl Racca and his wife Ericka of California; two great-grandchildren: Brady and Kaydyn, a sister, Frances LaPointe of Worcester and nephews and nieces. His brother, George Sakalauskas, died Jan. 3, 2011.
He was born in Worcester, a son of George and Alexandra (Guzauskas) Sakalauskas and lived in Worcester for most of his life before coming to Sterling 1 1/2 years ago.
Mr. Sakalauskas was a machinist for George Meyer Co., and worked there more than 25 years before retiring. He then worked in the building and grounds dept. for Holy Cross College. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and served in Europe with the Occupation forces. He was a member of St. John Church, Worcester and was a member of the former St. Casimir Church, Worcester. Charles enjoyed following the Red Sox and the Patriots. He also liked to be outside in the sun and fresh air.
The funeral will be held on Friday, December 23, from HENRY-DIRSA FUNERAL HOME, 33 Ward St., Worcester with a Mass at 9:30 AM in St. John Church, 40 Temple St., Worcester. Burial will be in Worcester County Memorial Park, Paxton. Calling hours in the funeral home are Thursday, December 22 from 5:00 to 7:00 PM.
