Charles H. Jordan, Jr., 89, passed away peacefully May 5, 2012. His first wife, Stephanie C. (Condrate) Jordan passed away in 2005. He is survived by his children, Deborah M. Johnstone, Skip Jordan and his wife Cynthia, and Melanie A. Balser and her husband Raymond, 8 grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren who will miss their beloved “Pops”; his sisters, Rhetta Morgan, Arlynne Levesque and Carole Buck and several nieces and nephews. He also leaves his wife, Geraldine (Chamberlain) Jordan along with her children and grandchildren.
Charlie was born August 21, 1922 in Grafton and was a lifelong resident in town. He joined the US Army at age 21, serving with pride during WWII in France, Africa and Algiers. Following his military service he worked for many years for the Felters Company in Millbury and Jamesbury Inc., retiring at age 62. Charlie was a devoted parishioner at St. Mary’s Church in Grafton for many years and was dedicated to his community, having served on the Nelson Park Committee and contributed his time toward the playground that was built there. Those who knew Charlie also will remember his love of fresh corn on the cob during the summers, riding old-fashioned railroads including a vacation with his late wife Stephanie to Churchill Manitoba to see polar bears, and in his later years he was often seen riding his “Vespa” scooter. He was a self-taught musician, playing string instruments and occasionally the organ at church if he was needed. Family was always his center as he treasured his time with his wife, sisters, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. He will be greatly missed.
In lieu of flowers, his family requests donations to The St. Mary’s Church Food Pantry, 17 Waterville St., N. Grafton, MA 01536 or to the Beaumont Rehab & Skilled Nursing Center – Attn: Activities Fund, 3 Lyman St., Westborough MA 01581.
All are invited to calling hours for Charlie Wednesday, May 9th from 5pm to 8pm at RONEY FUNERAL HOME, 152 Worcester St., N. Grafton, MA 01536. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Mary’s Church, 17 Waterville St., N. Grafton, MA 01536 Thursday, May 10th at 10:30am. All attending the Funeral Mass are politely requested to go directly to the church. He will then be laid to rest with Military Honors at Worcester County Memorial Park in Paxton.
