Katherine D. (Kennedy) O’Brien 89, of Worcester, passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, April 8, 2006. Her husband of 49 years, Frederick J. O’Brien, died in 1982.

     She leaves five daughters, Ann T., wife of Lee Sanna of Westminster, Md., Catherine E., wife of Thomas F. Payne of Worcester, Erin J., wife of Guerry New of Coral Springs, Fla., Sharon M., wife of Timothy W. Maloney of Holden and Marian G., wife of Peter K. Lawson of North Grafton. She was the loving grandmother and friend of 20 grandchildren and great-grandmother to 27 great-grandchildren. She also leaves many nephews and nieces. She was predeceased by a brother, Joseph J. Kennedy, three sisters, Marie and Ann Welsch and Elizabeth Kennedy, and two grandsons, Thomas F. and Kevin P. Payne.

     Katherine was born on Long Island, New York, daughter of James and Anna (Marshall) Kennedy. She moved to Worcester in 1944. She worked at the Worcester County Registry of Deeds more than 20 years, retiring in 1981. Previously, she worked at the Telechron Division of the General Electric Co. She enjoyed many days at the Age Center of Worcester and was a member of St. George’s Church.
