Subscription Update Obituary

     Catherine A. (Carlson) McElroy, 71, of Jaimie Ann Dr., died on Thursday, May 23, 2013 at Tufts Medical Center in Boston. Born and raised in Worcester, Catherine was the daughter of Alfred E. and Irene T. (Brierly) Carlson and lived most of her life in Worcester until moving to Rutland in 2002.
     Catherine graduated from St. Stephen’s High School in 1960. On July 18, 1964, she married the love of her life, Charles E. McElroy and together they raised their three sons in the Greendale section of Worcester.
     In her youth, Catherine was a competitive speed skater and traveled throughout New England. She enjoyed vacationing with her family, particularly camping at Peaceful Pines in Templeton. She also looked forward to spending several summer weekends every year with her two sisters in Mashpee. After moving to Rutland, she became active at the Rutland Senior Center where she was involved in many of the activities including quilting.
     She leaves her husband of 49 years, Charles E. McElroy, Sr.; three sons, Charles E. McElroy, II of Worcester, Steven J. McElroy and his wife Kelly of Rutland, and Richard E. McElroy of Haverhill; two sisters, Dorothy I. Carlson and Beverly J. Carlson both of Worcester; five grandchildren, Timothy, Joseph, Kayle, Jennifer, and Alixandra.
     Relatives and friends are invited to attend calling hours from 5 to 8 p.m. on Monday, May 27, at the Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main St., Holden. A funeral service honoring Catherine’s life will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, May 28, at the funeral home. Interment will follow at Worcester County Memorial Park, Paxton. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Rutland Council on Aging, 250 Main St., Rutland, MA 01543.
