Subscription Update Obituary

    Carrie B. (Robinson) Broyles, 87, of Worcester, died Sunday, September 26, 2010 in Holy Trinity Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

    Her husband of 50 years, Charles W. Broyles, died in 1995. She leaves three sons, Charles W. Broyles, Jr. of Orlando, FL and Elmer Lee and John W. Broyles, both of Worcester; two daughters, Shirley A. Purnell and her husband John of Worcester and Deborah J. Broyles of Sonoma, CA; eight sisters, Annie English, Rose Johnston, Evelyn Gamble, Dorothy Baldwin, Marie Robinson, Daisy Robinson, and Irene Robinson, all of Worcester and Pearl Dewitt of San Jose, CA; four grandchildren; three great grandchildren; and dozens of nephews and nieces. Mrs. Broyles was predeceased by two brothers, George W. Robinson, Jr. and Robert Robinson.

    Mrs. Broyles was born in Worcester, the daughter of George W. and Vanilla (Miller) Robinson. She was a 1943 graduate of the former High School of Commerce. Mr. & Mrs. Broyles did private catering for many years. In addition, Mrs. Broyles was a seamstress for over 25 years at Comfort Products. Thereafter, Ms. Broyles worked for over a dozen years in custodial services at Worcester City Hall, the job from which she retired.

    Mrs. Broyles was active in Worcester City politics and public school activities. During her retirement, Mrs. Broyles devoted a significant amount of time to community service, including volunteering regularly at The Mustard Seed Catholic Worker in Worcester. Mrs. Broyles also enjoyed gardening and traveling. Mrs. Broyles was a member of John Street Baptist Church.

    The funeral is Saturday, October 2nd, with a service at 10:00 AM in O'CONNOR BROTHERS FUNERAL HOME, 592 Park Avenue. Burial will be in Worcester County Memorial Park, Paxton. Calling hours are Friday, October 1st from 4:00 until 7:00 PM in the funeral home.
