Calvin C. Melvin, 72, of 34 Pleasant St., a retired maintenance supervisor died Wednesday, May 7, in St. Vincent Hospital at Worcester Medical Center after an illness. He leaves his wife of 51 years, Loretta L. (Leroux) Melvin: two sons, Robert Melvin of Millbury and Donald Melvin of Wildersville, Tenn; four daughters, Linda Roberts of Spencer, Cynthia Melvin of Marlboro, Karen Parker of Holden and Laurie Melvin of Shrewsbury; three sisters, Ruth Baie of Fort Atkinson, Wis., Edith Konan of Florida and Florence Konan of Clinton; 24 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews. A son, Ronald Melvin and two sisters, Gloria Green and Phoebe Hickey, predeceased him. He was born in Sterling, son of Elmer and Dora (Elliot) Melvin, and lived 37 Years in Northborough before moving to Spencer in 2001.
He was a Marine Corps veteran of the Korean War. Mr. Melvin was a maintenance supervisor for 12 years at B.F. Goodrich in Marlboro, retiring in 1990. He was a member of the American Legion Post 235 in Northborough and the North American Hunting Club. He also enjoyed gardening.
No funeral service is planned. After cremation, burial will be at the family’s convenience, there are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Central Massachusetts Chapter For Homeless Veterans, 69 Grove St., Worcester, Ma 01605. J Henri Morin & Son Funeral Home, 23 Maple Terrace, is directing arrangements.
