Barbara P. Hoaglund, 85, of 12 Brookside Avenue at Tatnuck Arms, died peacefully at home on July 25th, 2010.
Her husband, R. Donald Hoaglund, died in 2003. She leaves two daughters, Cheryl Lee Gagne, wife of Gary V. Gagne, and Patricia M. Jerome, wife of Dennis P. Jerome, four grandchildren, Michael A. Gagne, Melissa B. Jerome, H. Andrew Jerome and Brian C. Jerome, all of Worcester; a sister Claire R. Young and her husband, Edward B Young, of Virginia Beach, Virginia; and several nieces and nephews. Another sister, Shirley E. Somadelis, predeceased her in January 2010.
Mrs. Hoaglund was born in Worcester, daughter of the late George V. and Bernadette M. (Mantha) Machabee.
Mrs. Hoaglund attended Commerce High School and worked for many years as a sales associate in several retail stores, including the former Barnard's in Worcester.
Throughout her life, Mrs. Hoaglund worked hard caring for and enjoying her children and grandchildren, and was a committed caretaker for her husband in his last illness. She felt peace with her daily prayers and faith. She enjoyed decorating her home, music, dining, sewing, cooking and trips to the ocean in Charlestown, R.I.
She was a past member of St. Charles Borromeo Church. When living in New Jersey, she was a member of the Ladies Guild at St. Joseph's Church in Hammonton, N.J. She enjoyed trips with her husband to Atlantic City. In her later years, she looked forward to receiving Holy Communion in her home by her priest and Eucharistic minister.
The funeral will be held Thursday July 29th from Athy Memorial Home, 111 Lancaster St., Worcester, with a Mass at 10 a.m. at Saint Paul's Cathedral, 15 Chatham St., also in Worcester. Burial will be in Worcester County Memorial Park in Paxton. Calling hours at the funeral home are 4 to 8 P.M. on Wednesday July 28th.
