Subscription Update Obituary

Barbara D. (Steele) Wheeler, 83, died Friday, July 15, 2011 at Golden Living Center-Hermitage. Her husband of 57 years, Francis H. “Tom” Wheeler, Sr. predeceased her in 2005. She leaves a son, Francis H. Wheeler, Jr. of Spencer; two daughters, Dorothy B. Borowski of Worcester and Mary Frances Schneiderhan of Weymouth. She also leaves a brother Francis Steele of Pocasset; five grandchildren, three great grandchildren and nephews and nieces. She was predeceased by a sister Irene Gutowski and three brothers, James, Russell and John Steele. Barbara was born in Worcester, the daughter of David and Catherine (Sullivan) Steele.

She worked at Catholic Charities as a Home Health Aid for 14 years. She was a longtime member of St. Peter’s Church and an avid reader.

The funeral will be held on Monday, July 18 from CALLAHAN & FAY BROTHERS FUNERAL HOME, 61 Myrtle Street with a 10:00 AM Mass at St. Peter’s Church, 931 Main Street. Burial will follow in Worcester County Memorial Park, Paxton. Visiting hours are Sunday, July 17 from 3-5 PM in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Animal Rescue League, 139 Holden St., Worcester, MA 01606.
