Subscription Update Obituary

     Augusta D. (Thomas) McGrath, 89, passed away Sunday, January 29, 2012 after a long struggle with Parkinson’s Disease. Her husband of 59 years, Paul F. McGrath passed away in 2005. Augusta leaves behind her son, Paul F. and his wife Mary Beth McGrath of Westborough, her daughter, Carol A. McGrath of West Boylston, five grandchildren, Jonathan P. and Carolyn A. McGrath of Westborough, David H. McGrath of Worcester, Megan E. McGrath of Queens, NY and Thomas P. McGrath of Burlington, VT and three great grandchildren, Brendan, Conor and Colleen.

     Augusta was born on June 10, 1922 in Brisbin, PA the daughter of Clarence and Dorothy (Merritt) Thomas. She graduated from Houtzdale High School, Houtzdale PA and the Wilmington General Hospital School of Nursing. Mrs. McGrath proudly served in the Navy during WW II. Following WW II, Augusta was a registered nurse in the Worcester area and also served as a nursing instructor at St. Vincent Hospital School of Nursing and Worcester Vocational High School. After nursing, she worked at the former Filene’s Basement before retiring.

     Augusta enjoyed quilting and reading. She was a devoted mother and grandmother and will be deeply missed.

     Visiting hours for Augusta will be held Monday, January 30 from 5:00 to 7:00 PM at FAY BROTHERS FUNERAL HOME, 1 W. Boylston St., W. Boylston and again on Tuesday, January 31 from 10:00 to 11:00 AM. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM in the funeral home. Burial will be held in Worcester County Memorial Park, Paxton. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Skating for Hope, c/o Hope Lodge, 7 Oak St., Worcester, MA 01609 or to The Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research, Church Street Station, P.O. Box 780, New York, NY 10008-0780.
