Anthony Martelli, 94, of 10 Beverly Hills Drive, a life-long resident of Rutland, died Thursday, September 14, 2006 in the Meadows of Leicester.
His wife of 57 years, Ann (Caloiaro) Martelli, died in 1995. He leaves his daughter, Nancy J. Blair and her husband Clealand of Rutland; his son, John D. Martelli and his wife Marsha of Pensacola, Florida; a brother, Ernest Martelli of Wyoming; a sister, Matilda “Tillie” Haney of Rutland; 13 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; and a great great-grandchild, Noah Hoover. His son, Robert P. Martelli, died in 1977 and his daughter, Mary Ann Bosse, died in 2001. Three brothers, Daniel, Thomas and Dino Martelli predeceased him. He was born in Mercatello, Italy, the son of Lorenzo and Josephine (Nigro) Martelli.
Mr. Martelli was owner and operator of Martelli Construction Company in Rutland for 50 years. During World War II he worked as a heavy equipment operator in the cleanup of Pearl Harbor. He later worked on the building of the Quabbin Aquaduct and was a chef at Rutland State Sanitorium.
The funeral service for Mr. Martelli will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, Sept. 18, in the Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main St., Holden. Burial will follow in Worcester County Memorial Park, Paxton. Calling hours are from 4 to 7 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 17, in the funeral home.
