Alfred “Toots” O. Theirrien, 89, of Malden Street, died Tuesday, September 18, 2007 in Holden Nursing Home after an illness.
His wife of 49 years, Shirley M. (Becker) Theirrien, died in 1996. He leaves three daughters, Nancy M. Burbank and her husband Gerry W. of Rutland, Gail L. Butler and her husband Dean of Holden, and Wendy R. M. Woodbury and her husband Kenneth of Holden; three sisters, Mildred “Millie” E. Paille of Grafton, Marcella C. Greene of Auburn, and Violet M. Stuart of Uxbridge; a brother, Herbert “Herbie” L. Theirrien of Grafton; six grandchildren, Paul W. Burbank, Kim L. Keough, Kelly M. and Keith A. Butler, James and Tina Woodbury; and seven great-grandchildren. He was born on February 3, 1918, in Sutton, the son of Henry J. and Lucille (Donais) Theirrien and was raised in Grafton.
Mr. Theirrien served his county proudly in the U.S. Army during World War II, receiving a Purple Heart, a Good Conduct Medal, and the European African Middle Eastern Theater Campaign Ribbon with a Bronze Service Arrowhead. Mr. Theirrien was a member of the American Legion Post 204 and St. George’s Church in Worcester. For most of his life he was a self-employed carpenter, building his own home in Holden where he lived since 1958. He loved his work, fishing, and his scratch tickets!
The funeral service for Mr. Theirrien will be held at 1 p.m. on Friday, September 21st, in the Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main St., Holden. Burial will follow in Worcester County Memorial Park, Paxton. Calling hours are from 5 to 7 p.m. on Thursday, September 20th, in the funeral home.
