Alfred J. "Al" Ricard, Sr., 77, passed away peacefully, Monday, October 23rd, at home, surrounded by his loving family, after a courageous battle with cancer.
His devoted wife of 59 years, Helen "Eileen" (McGee) Ricard, passed away five months ago. Al is survived by his four sons: Alfred "Rick" Ricard, Jr. and his wife, Susan of Millbury, Ronald, and Joseph Ricard Sr., Vincent and his wife, Patricia, all of Worcester; a daughter, Laura-Lee Gabree and her husband, Daniel, whom he referred to as his 5th son. He is also survived by his five grandchildren: Michelle, Tammi, Joseph Jr., Robert and Alyson; two great grandchildren: Angelica and Vilis, all whom were special to him; a brother, John Ricard and his wife, Lorraine; many nieces and nephews. Three brothers: Stanley, Paul and Ronald Ricard, and two sisters: Hermina Perreault and Mary Case, all predeceased him. Born in Worcester, Al was a son of Elmer and Argentine (Scampini) Ricard. He has lived here all his life. Al worked more than 30 years as an auto mechanic for Harding Street Texaco. He also worked for David Clark Co., retiring as a machine operator in 1994. After retirement from David Clark Co., he worked seven years as a part time crossing guard for the City of Worcester School Department. Al enjoyed woodworking, horseshoes, bocce, gardening, singing and "putting" around. He loved wintering in Florida with his wife for many years. Al is a lifetime member of Brown Square Civic Club, and a member of St. Stephen's Church. He was a kind-hearted, gentle man who was devoted to his wife and family. He will be missed and loved forever.
Al's funeral will be held Wednesday, October 25th from the MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation St. with a Mass at 10 a.m. in St. Stephen's Church, 357 Grafton St. Burial will be in Worcester County Memorial Park in Paxton. Calling hours will be held Tuesday, (tonight) October 24th from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Visiting Nurse Association, 120 Thomas St., Worcester 01608.
