Albert J. Bachant, 94, passed away on Saturday, September 28, in UMass Memorial Hospital, 55 Lake Ave.

He will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Esther J. (Delman) Bachant, and their four daughters: Gail M. Frey and her husband Joseph of Sturbridge, Judy A. Mondor and her husband Andrew of Charlton. Sandra M. Robinson of Cape Cod, Cynthia A. Snyder and her husband Gordon of Paxton. Albert was a proud grandfather to 12 cherished grandchildren—Tony, Lindsey, Angela, Jenna, Chelsea, Jake, Tiffany, Christina, Julian, Jason, Megan, and Gina —and blessed with many great-grandchildren.

Born in Worcester, Albert was the son of Wilbur and Ethel (Henry) Bachant. He dedicated thirty three years to serving as a firefighter for the City of Worcester and honorably served in the United States Navy during the Korean Conflict. A member of the Worcester Fire Fighters Local 1009 and the American Legion Post 435, Albert also enjoyed his time in the St. Stephen’s pitch league. He had a passion for travel, particularly to Aruba, and he was a devoted fan of all the New England sports teams. He cherished his summers between his home on Cedar Lake in Sturbridge and Chatham on Cape Cod. Known for his quick wit and great sense of humor that brought warmth and joy to all, Albert found his greatest joy in his family’s company.

A visiting hour will be held on Wednesday, October 9, from 9:30 to 10:30 AM at Callahan, Fay & Caswell Life Celebration Home, 61 Myrtle Street, Worcester. This will be followed by a memorial Mass at St. John’s Church, 44 Temple Street, Worcester, at 11:00 AM. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to St. John’s Food Pantry, 44 Temple Street, Worcester, MA 01604.
