Subscription Update Obituary

Alfred S. Koki, of Worcester, a longtime educator, died Thursday, March 29, 2007 at his home after being stricken ill.

He leaves his wife of 53 years, Antoinette J. “Toni” (DeNicola) Koki; two daughters, Cheryl Koki, her husband Bill Shipman and their son, Will Shipman of Shrewsbury, and Kathy Mayo, her husband David Mayo and their children Emily and Samuel Mayo of Rutland; and a brother, Philip Adams and his wife Norma Adams of Falls Church, VA and their sons, David and Keith Adams. His brother, Arthur Koki predeceased him. He was born in Worcester, son of Sotir and Anna (Andrews) Koki and lived in Worcester all his life.

He was a graduate of Worcester State College where he also earned a Master’s Degree in Education. He also did graduate studies at Clark University and Assumption College.

He was a Captain in the 181st Infantry Division of the Mass. National Guard with which he served for 16 years.

Mr. Koki was a teacher in the Worcester Public Schools for 39 years, retiring in 1992. For most of his career, he taught Social Studies and Economics at Classical and Doherty Memorial high schools. He also was an Adjunct Professor at Quinsigamond Community College for 24 years, where he taught Math and Economics.

His grandchildren were the apples of his eye and he loved spending time with them. He also enjoyed traveling throughout the world. He was a member of the Mass. Teachers Association, the Educational Association of Worcester, and the 1895 Book Club.

Calling hours at the Athy Memorial Home, 111 Lancaster St., Worcester, are on Monday, April 2 from 5 to 7 p.m. The funeral will be Tuesday, April 3 from the funeral home with a Mass at 11 a.m. in Our Lady of the Rosary Church, 25 Fales St., Worcester. Burial will be in Worcester County Memorial Park, Paxton.
