Subscription Update Obituary

     Lawrence Al-Mateen Sabree (Nevins) 84 of Worcester passed away peacefully on July 15, 2014,

with his devoted family gathered by his side.

He leaves his wife Hanifah Abdullah Sabree and his pre deceased late wife Eugenia S. Sabree, his oldest daughter Cheryl H. Rutherford, brothers John Nevins Sabree, Albert “Albby” Nevins and sister Inez Sabree.

He is survived by his six daughters, Karen E. Bates-Brown of Phoenix, AZ., Lauren I. Cambra of Raleigh, NC., Denise J. Nevins, Jean C. Shaw of Worcester, MA., Lisa A. Corrow of Florence, SC, and Jamilla L. Sabree of Decatur, GA. 14 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren, 3 great great grandchildren many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends

He grew up in Worcester, joined the U.S. Army serving his country proudly during the Korean War

Lawrence worked as a laborer for the Laborer’s union on many Construction projects throughout the Worcester Area and New England before retiring.

Lawrence was a member of the Laurel Street Mosque, and the International Brotherhood of Laborers. He loved to drive, travel, his family and especially his grandchildren. He was also known for his famous “Shabazz chicken & sauce.”

Funeral services will be held Friday, July 18th at 1:30 pm in the Laurel Street Mosque. Burial with Military Honors, next to his wife Eugenia will follow in Worcester County Memorial Park in Paxton. There are no calling hours. Memorial donations in Lawrence memory may be made to the Nevins-Sabree family care of Jean Shaw, 25 Bullard Ave Worcester 01605. The MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation St is honored to assist the family with arrangements.
