Subscription Update Obituary

     Mary T. (Hawes) Giofreda, 84, of Shrewsbury, passed away at her home on Monday July 15, 2013, after a long illness, surrounded by her daughters, Marianne O’Brien, of North Carolina, and Susan Monoghan, of Shrewsbury, and sons, Gary and Brian Giofreda of Shrewsbury, and her niece Sheryl O’Connor of Holden.
     She leaves her 7 adoring grandchildren, Anthony Andrews, Joshua Adams, Jenny Adams, Jillian Doan, Christopher Giofreda, Julie Clark, Alex O’Brien, and Gary Paul Giofreda, Jr.; 5 loving great grandchildren, Madison, Latta, Julius, Marcus, Maddox, & Quinn. She also leaves several nieces and nephews, as well as many old friends and some new ones whom will all miss her.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Ralph “Gary” Giofreda; and brothers, Kevin, Martin and Jack Hawes; and a sister Frances Loconsolo.
     Mary was born in Worcester. She was the daughter of the late George and Julia (Murphy) Hawes. She was educated in Worcester schools.
     Mrs. Giofreda was a longtime member of St. Anne’s Parish. She enjoyed bingo and trips to Foxwoods, spending time with family and friends, and cheering for Boston Sports teams.
     Relatives and friends are invited to attend visiting hours from 4-7 PM Wednesday July 17, in the Britton-Shrewsbury Funeral Home, 648 Main Street. Her funeral will be held Thursday, July 18 from the funeral home with a Mass at 12PM in St. Anne’s Church, 130 Turnpike Rd., Shrewsbury. Burial will follow in Worcester County Memorial Park.
