Subscription Update Obituary

    John P. Mockler, 83, of Worcester, died Sunday, June 6, 2010 in the Rose Monahan Hospice Home. He leaves his wife of 59 years, Mary L. (Robertson) Mockler; a son, John V. Mockler and his wife Caroline of Dubuque, IA; a daughter, Nancy A. Mattson and her husband Russ of Worcester; seven grandchildren, John and Christopher Mattson and Michael, Katherine, Brian, Emma, and Sarah Mockler.

    He was born in Brooklyn, NY, the son of John and Nora (Buckley) Mockler and graduated from Columbia University. He worked at Worcester State College as the Athletic Director from 1952 to 1970, and as the Chairman of the Athletic Department from 1970 until retiring in 1991.

    Mr. Mockler was a United States Marine Corps World War II veteran. He was a member of Blessed Sacrament Church and the Lancer Club at Worcester State College.

    The funeral is Friday, June 11th from O'CONNOR BROTHERS FUNERAL HOME, 592 Park Avenue, with a Mass at 10:00 A.M. in Blessed Sacrament Church, 555 Pleasant Street. Burial will be in Worcester County Memorial Park, Paxton. Calling hours are Thursday, June 10th from 5:00 until 7:00 P.M. in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Blessed Sacrament Church, 551 Pleasant Street, Worcester, MA 01602.
