Subscription Update Obituary

     Irene (Wisniewski) Lahti, 91, a lifelong resident of Worcester, passed away peacefully on Monday, December 24, 2012 in the Jewish Healthcare Center.
     Irene’s husband of thirty-one years, Fred W. Lahti passed away on September 4, 1977. She is survived by two sons, Fred W. Lahti, Jr. and his wife Marie of Worcester and David W. Lahti and his wife Suzanne of Shrewsbury; a daughter, Diane A. Lahti of Worcester, with whom she lived; four grandchildren, Steven Lahti of Worcester, Debra Huard and her husband Eli of Danielson, CT, Kristina Horgan and her husband Thomas of Worcester, and Erik Lahti of Shrewsbury; two great grandchildren, Justin Lahti of Laconia, NH and Brady Huard of Danielson, CT. She is predeceased by two brothers, Henry S. Winski and William Winski.
     Irene was born in Worcester, the daughter of the late Joseph and Agnes (Remiesiewicz) Wisniewski and has resided here all her life. She graduated from Commerce High School. Irene worked as a Comptometer Operator for American Steel and Wire, Norton Company and Graton and Knight Corp. before dedicating her life to raising and caring for her family. Irene had a passion for knitting; she was an animal lover especially for birds, but her greatest passion in life was spending time with her family.
     A period of calling hours for Irene will be held on Saturday, December 29, 2012 from 9:30-10:30 a.m. in the MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation St., Worcester. Burial alongside her husband will follow at Worcester County Memorial Park, Paxton. In lieu of flowers or those who wish to remember Irene by way of memorial tribute are kindly asked to donate to the American Diabetes Association , P.O. Box 11454, Alexandria, VA 22312.
