Subscription Update Obituary

     Eugene A. “Gino” Rida, 77, of Boylston, formerly of Boston’s West end and North end, passed away on Tuesday, June 11, 2013 in UMASS Hospital surrounded by his loving family.
Gino is survived by his devoted wife of fifty four years, Evelyn A. (Multeri) Rida; his son, Gino A. Rida of Boylston; his twin daughters, Gina M. Greenleaf and her husband Michael and Maria G. O’Neil and her husband Michael; three grandchildren, Shaina, Michael and Nicole O’Neil all of Worcester; many nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by two brothers, Richard and Freddy Rita.
     Gino was born in Boston, MA, a son of the late Mary (Lattanzi) Rita. He graduated from Brighton High School and later attended Babson College and Quinsigamond Community College receiving his associate’s degree in criminal justice. Gino served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War. Gino worked for the Worcester Police Department for 34 years. He began his career as a foot patrolman in 1964, and then worked in the Detective Bureau for many years before retiring in 1998 as a Lieutenant.
     Gino was a proud member of the VFW Post and was a strong supporter to the veterans. He was also a member of the National Police Association. Gino’s greatest enjoyment in life was spending time with his family.
     A period of calling hours will be held on Sunday, June 16th from 3-6 p.m. in the MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation St., Worcester. A funeral Mass for Gino will be held on Monday, June 17, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. in Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, 24 Mulberry St. Burial will follow at Worcester County Memorial Park, Paxton. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to: The American Cancer Society , P.O. Box 22718, Oklahoma City, OK 73123-1718.
