Daniel A. Groccia, 86 of Worcester, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, July 7, 2015 just 2 days shy of his 87th birthday at Beaumont Rehabilitation and Skilled Nursing Center surrounded by his loving family. Daniel’s wife of 54 years, Theresa L. (Marotta) Groccia passed away in 2010. He is survived by four devoted children, Debra L. Donahue and her husband Bruce, Denise Groccia, and her fiancée John Lajeunesse, Daniel L. Groccia all of Worcester, and Terri E. Groccia of Millbury; five cherished grandchildren, Nicholas and his wife Michelle, Jennifer and her husband Michael, Daniel, Jimmy, and Tony and his wife Jacklyn; two great-grandchildren, Nathaniel and Tiffany; two sisters-in-law, Angelina DiPilato of Worcester and Helen Groccia of West Boylston; many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. He is predeceased by siblings Salvatore, James, William and Louis Groccia, Helen Gagliastre, Louise Ventres and Margaret Groccia. Daniel was born in Worcester, a son of the late Carmine and Angelina (Fusaro) Groccia. He graduated from Worcester Schools and has lived here all his life. He served his country during the Korean War for the United States Navy. Daniel worked in the maintenance and custodial departments for the City of Worcester for over 12 years before retiring in 1991. He was a member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel-St. Ann Church and the Italian – American Post 3. Daniel enjoyed playing chess, doing crossword puzzles, listening to Frank Sinatra and watching the Patriots, Red Sox and horse racing. The family wishes to express their gratitude to the first floor staff at Beaumont Nursing Facility for the compassionate and excellent care given to Daniel during his extended stay. Services for Daniel will be held on Saturday, July 11 2015 from the MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation St., Worcester with a Mass at 10:30 a.m. in Our Lady of Mount Carmel-St. Ann Church, 24 Mulberry St. Burial will follow in Worcester County Memorial Park, Paxton. A period of calling hours will be held on Saturday morning from 8:30-10:00 a.m. in the funeral home prior to departure to church.
