Subscription Update Obituary

     Thomas R. Sims, 86, died peacefully on Friday, December 1, 2017 at UMass Memorial Medical, Worcester. He was born in Milford, the son of Nick and Harriet (Shemkowski) Sims and grew up in upstate NY.

He is survived by his children, Nicole Minty (Astro) of Petersham, John Sims (Tamara) of Fort Wayne, IN, Patricia Curry (Ken) of NY, Laurie Knox (Greg) of NY, Bryan John Sims (Lynn) of NY, Susan Moore (Fred) of NY, and Thomas Sims Jr. of NY; his step children, Michael Chenausky (Paula), Claire Chenausky, Alphonse Chenausky, Cynthia Lanagan (Bob), Theresa Adams (Bob), and Deborah Fifield (Rick); many grandchildren and great grandchildren; his companion of over 25 years, Audrey DiPilato of Boylston, her sons, Joe, John, and Jeff and their families. He is predeceased by his brother, Nick Sims.

A man of many trades, Tom spent his younger years in tunnel construction in MA, NY, and AK with his family. Later in life, Tom spent 20 years at Starrett’s Tool Company in Athol, retiring as foreman of the polishing floor. He lived in Holden for over 24 years and was an active member of Holden Chapel. For the last 3 years he worked for Holden Christian Academy, where he was beloved by all. He loved gardening and was a man of great faith. Tom was known for his generous and gregarious nature.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a memorial service at 1 pm on Thursday, December 7 at Holden Chapel, 279 Reservoir St., Holden. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Holden Christian Academy, 279 Reservoir St., Holden, MA 01520. Arrangements are under the care of Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main St., Holden.
