Subscription Update Obituary

     Stewart E. Rutherford, Jr., 82 of Briarwood Circle, died Friday, Nov. 3 at Knollwood Nursing Center in West Boylston.
He was the husband of Virginia M. (Hall) Rutherford who died in 2016. He leaves his son Bruce S. Rutherford of Worcester, his daughter Tracy L. McPherson and her husband Eric of Smyrna, Tenn., three grandsons Alex, Luke and John McPherson, two sisters Janet Evans and Hazel Gaucher both of Spencer, nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by a sister Helen Baribeault.
Born in Spencer, he was the son of Stewart E. and Alexia (Peddie) Rutherford, Sr. He was a speed tester at Norton Co. in Worcester for over 30 years prior to retirement.
He served his country with the US Army. He was a member of the Brookfield Congregational Church, loved making puzzles and was an avid Red Sox and N.E. Patriots Fan. Stewart was known by many names by those who loved him. Jimmy to his family and friends in Spencer, Earle to his wife Virginia, Stew or Stewie to his co- workers at Norton Co. and his father in law simply called him Rutherford. In the last few months he was called “poppa” by his caretakers at Knollwood.
A funeral service will be held Wednesday, Nov. 8 at 11:00 AM in Brookfield Congregational Church, 8 Central Street, Brookfield. Burial with Military Honors will follow in Worcester County Memorial Park, Paxton. Calling hours are Tuesday, Nov. 7 from 5:00-7:00 PM in J. HENRI MORIN & SON FUNERAL HOME, 23 Maple Terr., Spencer. In Lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Alzheimer’s Assoc. of MA/NH, 309 Waverly Oaks Road, Waltham, MA 02452.
